A Beginner’s Guide
So, you’ve got a shiny MikroTik router sitting on your desk, and now you’re wondering: “Okay… how do I actually set this thing up?”
Don’t worry—you don’t need to be a networking wizard to get started. That’s where Winbox comes in!
Winbox is MikroTik’s handy little app that lets you manage your router with a simple, clicky interface (no scary command line needed). Let’s dive in!
¶ 1. Grab Winbox
First things first, download Winbox:https://mikrotik.com/download
Scroll down to the Tools section and grab Winbox.exe
No installation fuss—it’s portable! Just double-click it and you’re ready to roll.
¶ 2. Connect to Your Router
Open Winbox and you’ll see a login screen. Here’s how to get in:
If your MikroTik is fresh out of the box, it usually lives at 192.168.88.1
Username: admin
Password: just leave it blank (yep, it’s empty by default 😬—we’ll fix that soon!)
Hit Connect
👉 Pro tip: If the IP doesn’t work, check the Neighbors tab—Winbox can sniff out your router via its MAC address.
